What to expect

Portimão was bulldozed out of Algarve hillside and it drives like it: crests that hide apexes, compressions that load the car exactly when you want to turn, and a final corner that drops onto the main straight like a ski jump. Winter European track days flock here for the climate — book accommodation early.

What the ratings mean for your day

Difficulty 4/5 — Complex. A complex lap that rewards homework. Onboard videos and corner names studied before you arrive convert directly into useful laps on the day.

Danger 3/5 — Moderate. A mixed bag: some corners forgive, some do not. Part of learning this circuit is learning where the hard edges are — before you push, not after.

Local knowledge

  • Several braking points sit before you can see the corner. Learn the lap slowly; the crests hide the apexes.
  • The last corner's downhill entry is the lap's biggest commitment — a good exit matters more than a brave entry.

How firstlap tunes your plan here

  • Layout homework — a task to learn the lap in sections (video or sim) before you arrive.

Ratings are editorial. Difficulty scores how hard the layout is to learn; danger scores what a mistake costs. They are our honest judgement as track day drivers — not an official scale — and they exist to calibrate your preparation, not to rank bravery.
