Nürburgring Nordschleife

73 corners of forest, blind crests and camber changes — the most demanding circuit on Earth that you can simply book.

What to expect

The Nordschleife is not a track day venue in the normal sense. Most public running happens as Touristenfahrten — pay-per-lap tourist sessions under public-road rules — while proper closed track days are run by specialist organizers a handful of times a year and sell out early. Budget more than you think: entry, fuel for a 20.8 km lap, and the sobering knowledge that Armco repairs are billed to the driver, per metre.

What the ratings mean for your day

Difficulty 5/5 — Extreme. One of the hardest layouts in the world to learn. Treat the entire first day as a study exercise and measure progress in corners understood, not lap times.

Danger 5/5 — Severe. Consequences here are as serious as track driving gets — walls where other circuits have gravel. Margin is everything, all day, in every session.

Local knowledge

  • Guardrails everywhere, gravel almost nowhere: a small mistake is a big bill. Leave a huge margin for your first 20+ laps.
  • Learn it in sections — Hatzenbach, Bergwerk, Karussell, Döttinger Höhe. Nobody learns 73 corners in one day.
  • For a first visit, a closed track day beats Touristenfahrten: briefings, run groups, and no tourist traffic.

How firstlap tunes your plan here

  • High-consequence circuit rules — an extra must-do about margin, fatigue and never chasing lap times here.
  • Layout homework — a task to learn the lap in sections (video or sim) before you arrive.
  • Ring-specific insurance check — many track day policies exclude the Nordschleife by name.
  • Touristenfahrten vs closed track day — a check to confirm which rules your day actually runs under.

Ratings are editorial. Difficulty scores how hard the layout is to learn; danger scores what a mistake costs. They are our honest judgement as track day drivers — not an official scale — and they exist to calibrate your preparation, not to rank bravery.
